Public Services

The Public Services Department has nearly 100 employees working in five divisions. Divisions within the department include:

  • Engineering
  • Streets
  • Sewage Collection
  • Wastewater Treatment
  • Sanitation
  • Landscape Division Commercial Sanitation

The Street Division is responsible for maintaining and improving the city's 150 miles of streets and all associated drainage facilities. The Sanitation Division provides residential rear yard waste collection throughout the city on a weekly basis, and coordinates the city's recycling program. The city's wastewater treatment plant on Pegasus Parkway has a treatment capacity of 12.5 million gallons per day and serves over 9,300 customers. Available capacity at the wastewater treatment plant is estimated at 4 million gallons. Finally, the departments staff provides in-house engineering capabilities to help ensure well maintained and adequately designed infrastructure.

The Landscape Division consists of 13 employees. The divisions primary responsibilities are to maintain certain public rights-of-way, including trees, grass, and plantings. The division also clears electrical and sewer rights-of-way and maintains Lafayette Square and other landmark parks throughout the city. In addition, the division is responsible for the operation of the City Showmobile (portable stage) and events.
