City Council

City Council determine policy legislatively. A City Manager is appointed by the Council to administer policy and manage the City's departments. As chief administrative officer, the City Manager appoints all city employees and is responsible for the activities of the departments as well as the successful completion of programs approved by the City Council. The City Council also appoints the City Attorney, who provides legal advice and counsel to the Mayor and City Council and to City Staff.

City Council meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers located at 208 Ridley Avenue, LaGrange, Georgia.

Council work sessions are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at 11:00 a.m. in the City Manager’s Third Floor Conference Room in City Hall located at 200 Ridley Avenue, LaGrange, Georgia.

Jim Arrington is a proud lifelong resident of LaGrange. Arrington says he carefully decided to run for city council because, “I want to do my part and give back to the city that gave me so much.” Arrington is the owner of the local construction company Arrington Builders. Jim and his wife Cathy have been married for 23 years and have a daughter Abbey and son Drew. Arrington began his term in 2018.

Quay Boddie

Marquavious “Quay” Boddie was appointed to City Council in 2023. Born and raised in LaGrange, Quay works as a Home Inspector, but his true passion is people. He has served as the Board Chair and President for Harmony House Domestic Violence Shelter and also as a board member for Habitat for Humanity. Quay’s journey is to spread the message of hope and faith and encourage others to believe in themselves, something he accomplishes as a motivational speaker, author, and community advocate.

Leon Childs

Leon Childs

Council Member - District 2


Leon Childs was first elected to the Lagrange City Council in 2022. Leon works as the Community Engagement Associate at the non-profit Groundswell, and he previously spent 8 years as a director of an after-school mentoring and tutoring program. An advocate for the people in all aspects of his life, his passions include community engagement, social justice initiatives, and community organizing.

Nathan Gaskin

Nathan Gaskin

Council Member - District 2


Nathan Gaskin has a passion for civil rights. He was born in Harlem, New York and moved to Troup County in 1988. Gaskin was a Highway Emergency Response Operator (HERO) with the Georgia Department of Transportation and is a retired airline employee. He is married to Shantris Hardy Gaskin and has four children, three grandchildren. He is a former Troup County NAACP Legal Redress Chairman. Gaskin began his term in 2018.

Tom favors a bipartisan approach to City service, and wants to keep communication channels open with all citizens. He attempts to find creative solutions to current challenges and hopes to find ways to make LaGrange even more of a special place than it is now.
