Job Summary

This position involves administration and performance of field inspections of building repairs, unsafe demolitions, alterations during construction and upon completion of construction. The employee approves work which conforms to building and zoning regulations and requires corrections to be made when deficiencies are discovered. Employee inspects old, dangerous, or fire damaged structures which may be subject to condemnation, as fire or safety hazards, and determines the extent of damages and investigates alleged violations. This work involves some physical exertion such as recurring standing, climbing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, reaching, or similar activities. The employee also in interprets and enforces codes and ordinances and prepares unsafe court cases. The employee will also be familiar with all aspects and functions of the building office, including operations of business licenses, which includes alleged violations of ones doing business without a current license.

Necessary Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard high school
  • Some experience in building, construction, or construction related activities
  • Must be able to obtain a one and two-family Housing Inspector Certificate
  • Possess a valid state issued driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • Must be physically capable of performing the necessary job requirements
  • Must be neat in appearance
