An employee in this position will be responsible for the daily cleaning of police department facilities. Employee must have a good understanding of the use of all cleaning materials and methods used to perform their duties on a daily basis. The applicant must possess the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with companies and individuals who supply the department with the necessary materials and services for the upkeep, cleanliness, and operation of the law enforcement agency. Applicant must have the ability to work without constant supervision.

This position involves daily physical assertions such as recurring standing, climbing, walking, bending, crawling, lifting, and reaching. Employee must be willing and able to work with equipment such as floor buffers and cleaning chemicals.

Duties & Responsibilities

The following duties and associated tasks are typically performed by a person in this position. No attempt is made to be exhaustive in this listing.

  • Coordinate and maintain the daily cleanliness of police facilities
  • Ensure facilities are neat, clean, free from clutter and safe
  • Removing trash from both inside and outside police facilities
  • Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming
  • Cleaning and stocking of bathrooms
  • Cleaning windows and dusting
  • Moving Furniture and assisting with room set-up for meetings, as requested
  • Assisting with deliveries, unloading and distributing supplies or equipment, as needed
  • Purchasing and maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Skill in the use of cleaning equipment
  • Skill in the use of small lawn equipment such as leaf blower and pressure washer
  • Knowledge in general cleaning procedures
  • Knowledge in the use of cleaning materials
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, nights and weekends if requested
  • Ability to deal with the public courteously, tactfully, and effectively.
  • Ability to maintain records and make reports.
  • Ability to lift from 20 to 40 lbs.
  • Strong attention to detail

Desired Training & Experience

  • At least five years experience in custodian field

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Must not have been convicted of a crime that could have resulted in imprisonment
  • Must successfully undergo an extensive background investigation and physical screeninge
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Must have reliable transportation
