An employee in this position is responsible for enforcing the environmental, sanitation, housing, and utility codes of the City of LaGrange and the State of Georgia. Employee reports to the Chief of Police or his designee.

Job Summary

  • Respond to customer complaints about improper landscaping, abandoned vehicles, unsightly growth, nuisances, poor sanitation practices as well as other environmental ordinances throughout the City of LaGrange.
  • Work effectively with the Sanitation Department to identify and prosecute cases of illegal dumping.
  • Work effectively with the Troup County Marshal’s Office and other county entities as it relates to eviction processes and tax record information.
  • Summon violators to court as necessary.
  • Gather evidence and present in court as required.
  • Stay informed about changes in environmental, housing, and utility codes.
  • Maintain detailed records of work performed.

  • Ability to interface with citizens in a polite and professional manner.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative manner with multiple City and County Departments.
  • Ability to complete paperwork in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to do basic math.
  • Ability to address code violations in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of effective problem solving processes.

Necessary Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Must not have been convicted of a crime that could have resulted in imprisonment within the last ten years or any crime involving moral turpitude.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.
